Internetradio

The Wolfman from California that is featured in American Graffiti is my inspiration.

Update 8/11 : I recently put a tv up in the garage and the radio system has been vetoed by “the powers that be”. I didn’t get very far into the set up but I will look at another project for now.

My whole thought process for this idea comes from MansionNet radio. To be honest the website and the mansionet network seems cool. The idea of creating and IRC, serach, forum and git service would be cool if my users grew to a larger size. I am not sure how many individual people I have on the network but the number of devices I have connected grows. I want to build something here with the same type of allure that was displayed in the movie American Graffitti where people are hanging on to the words of Wolfman and creating lore around him.

I think the best way for me to go about this is to mix in old Woldman clips with new music and then having some type of dj or something just constantly playing files and picking from a Wolfman one every now and then. I don’t think this will be to terrible but I don’t know what I need as far as hardware and everything. The main server stuff is getting prett crowded as storage is getting used up. Otherwise I am pretty good to be honest I think a quick container would be alright to run this. And to challenge myself I think making it into a docker package would be sick.

Makes it easier for others to work from what I have or something else but for the most part just me. I think going about it this way I’ll drop Spotify for the most part as a Radio would be perfect to just listen to it in the garage. Make it like an old school always on radio that you just turn down. I think if I get an intentionally bad antennae I should be able to transmit it and then have a radio pick it up on an FM station.

The easiest choice would be just an internet connection -> tailscale -> tunes but the other option would be cool for around the house and potentially people picking it up. Legality of trnasmitting open air with how congested US FCC radio is would be annoying though…

Yeah an internet radio is what we are going to do. And having a Wolfman + my own little ads same as MANSIONNET is where my brain is going. I am gonna try out the whole thing this weekend and then make another blog with updates and all with what is happenning.

Since graduating I have been looking for some sort of job job but no dice. The one contract I have is not anything too bad. A quick python script and done. For the most part I just need something for the longer haul where I can do a solid days work and feel good about the hours put in. This stuff here is not it. May also be working on cars at a mechanic shop part time to get some more cheese in my pocket. Still looking for jobs to challenge my brain and push me but my projects have done better at that task.
